About This Spot

Stepping into Havana Cafe is like entering a warm, familiar nook where the rhythms of Cuban culture quietly pulse beneath the hum of casual conversation. Tucked away on a quiet street in West Jefferson, this unassuming spot invites you to slow down and savor the moment, whether you’re settling in for a midday escape or lingering over an evening meal.

The pace here is gentle but lively in a way that feels effortlessly welcoming. The air carries the rich aroma of freshly brewed Cuban coffee, complementing the low murmur of friendly chatter and the clinking of mugs and plates. It’s a place where you can feel the care that goes into each dish, crafted with simple, honest ingredients that conjure the spirited flavors of the island.

Expect each bite to be a comforting revelation—the tender Vaca Frita mingling with the tang of special hot sauce, or the satisfying heartiness of a Cuban sandwich accompanied by mellow black beans and fluffy rice. Sweet moments emerge too, whether it’s a slice of velvety coconut tres leches cake or the playful contrast of tempura ice cream. Beyond the food, there’s a sense of ease and belonging fostered by a team that remembers your name and your favorite drink, making you feel more like a welcomed neighbor than a passing guest.

Havana Cafe’s charm isn’t just in its menu; it’s in the way it quietly breathes life into the local dining scene, offering a genuine escape without fanfare. It’s a spot where time softens, flavors unfold naturally, and everyday moments become quietly memorable.

The food was very delicious! We got the mojo pork nachos and the patacon and both were quite tasty!

I love Havana Cafe. It's one of the best restaurants in Ashe county. Their Cubans are really good and the black beans and white rice are delicious. The food is always on point, and after eating here for many years, I've never been disappointed. Their coffee is wonderful! If you're looking for a great coffee shop, look no further. I recommend trying a cortadito. Staff is always friendly, even when they're busy. Great place to eat.

Man what a “hidden” gem! We ordered the beef empanadas with rice and beans and Cuban sandwich. Both were flavorful, hot, and delicious. Food came out quickly also. The prices are very reasonable. Warm and welcoming environment, Great lunch place in West Jefferson.

Picadillo (think Cuban sloppy Joe) was very good. I am not a fan of green olives, but this dish is very tasty. Black beans and rice were good. I added plantains and they were great. My brother got the steak (Palomilla) and it tasted great, but just a little chewy.

Decided to eat here before the antiques festival. Cuban sandwich and fries was hot and made to order!! Very flavorful. It is located on the back side of Main Street so it wasn’t completely crowded!

We weren't sure what the protocol was at first. Do we wait to be seated? Are there servers? Then the man at the register handed us menus & said sit anywhere & order at the counter when ready. You can see them preparing the food behind them. Everything looked fresh. We got a junior Cuban with plantains & a Havana burger. The food was brought out to us hot & fresh. Drinks were Self serve. The plantains were caramelized & hot. The burger was saucy & stacked. A great lunch for under $30.

Good lunch. Simple food, well prepared, very tasty. Reasonable prices. Disposable plates and bowls eco unfriendly but restaurant and bathrooms were clean and cashier was nice as well as efficient. Best food I’ve had in West Jefferson.
